CPPE Resources

This programme builds on the basics that CPPE delivered in the Musculoskeletal disorders open learning programme.  It is intended to support the development of specialist pharmacists and those looking to specialise in this clinical area.  It directs the learner to undertake a number of critical reviews of guidelines and papers, along with a series of patient-related clinical activities, many of which use internet resources.

The programme covers the evidence base for the new biologics and combination DMARDs in rheumatoid arthritis; it discusses the evidence for the use of new therapeutic technologies for osteoporosis, and signposts to NICE guidance.  It also looks at the management of less commonly encountered rheumatology conditions such as Raynaud’s phenomenon, as well as signposting to emerging therapies for management of vasculitis and systemic lupus erythematosus.

The programme has been written and developed in association with the United Kingdom Clinical Pharmacy Association (UKCPA)

New learning programme format

CPPE have developed the learning for this programme within six booklets. Four printed booklets are posted to you when the programme is ordered, these are small, portable and each one contains a specific clinical topic area. Booklets 5 and 6 are downloadable only and provide the case study answers and learning portfolio (see below).

Learning Portfolio

Within this programme CPPE have introduced an innovative new format to allow you to record your learning in an electronic document.

This learning portfolio uses the latest Adobe Acrobat PDF (portable document format) technology which allows the user to make notes and complete their answers to the activities directly into a PDF.  This facility is available for free when you download the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader.  It offers the learner the advantage of keeping an electronic record of learning. For those of you who are digital natives, CPPE hope that this development will support your learning style and your preferred methods of documenting your learning.

Postscript: for those who prefer traditional recording methods, you can choose to print the learning portfolio and put pen to paper at your leisure!
